PROUD SUPPORTER
Be a proud supporter is a campaign run by EE Network in partnership with England football to show how we can tackle hate in football and be worthy of the shirt.
In this campaign you got to hear from three proud supporters that make a difference at grassroot level.
3 parents, 3 lessons on hate. Hate, homophobia, and racism are a stain on English football. So, who better to teach us the practical ways to deal with it than the proudest supporters of them all? Player's parents.
My piece was on handling sideline homophobia from a mother and coach prospective with real events and what we could do all together to tackle this issue in football.
I once took my little one to toddler football and the homophobic comments both my wife an I received was despicable and I couldn’t comprehend how some parents could behave in such way. Our children are our future, they look up to us and we as adults and parents have a duty of care towards them and everyone else around us to kick Homophobia out of football. It takes one person to start the change because I am sure more will follow. I, as a mother and coach do not want to see hate and homophobia in the game I love the most and will fight everyday to kick it out the football pitch.
